DIVE WITH THE SHARKS IN MALTA!

The SHARKS (Branch 1818 of the B.S.A.C.), established in 1994, was the coming together of a very experienced group of expatriate divers living and working in the Maltese Islands, who had already been diving together as a team.

Whilst basic training and up to Dive Leader is happily undertaken by the Instructors of the Club, the predominant interest of the SHARKS is to dive at different and new locations, and to do so throughout the year.

As a result of this philosophy, the SHARKS have not only been responsible for the training of a number of new members and visitors, but also for successfully establishing numerous less accessible, totally new sites on the Islands. Despite some of these involving a good deal of arduous hiking and traversing of rocks fully kitted, this does not mean to say that one has to be a "Rambo" to join in the dives. On the contrary there are several members and lady divers who enjoy less strenuous sites, with the Club often offering a choice of dives on any one day, especially during the Summer months.

During the Summer, another facet of the SHARKS program are the regular night dives/BBQ's and boat trips (usually including the Island of Filfla). This is where the social involvement of non-diving relatives and friends is especially encouraged and who are made very welcome on these and other occasions.

For those who have not dived the Maltese Islands, it is still one of the world's major locations. Its small size means that sites are easily reached and its island weather virtually guarantees there is always somewhere to dive. Dramatic underwater topography with arches, caves and swim-thru's; a variety of wrecks by shore or boat diving; good visibility and water temperatures of 14 C in winter to 27 C in summer make Malta and sister island Gozo an excellent prospect.

Any visiting divers from B.S.A.C. or any other federation are warmly invited to "surface" and join them for a dive.
